Book Harvest Mural Project
In collaboration with Book Harvest, a new mural by Ben Hamburger was added to the school!
This year, the book was Maybe Something Beautiful by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell, Illustrated by Rafael López, which depicts a young girl inspiring and beautifying her community through public art and community. This inspired Daniele Berman of Book Harvest to propose a collaborative reading and mural project with art created by Ben Hamburger and inspired by the book. Our principal James Hopkins loved the idea and involved all of the children at the school to read the book and make their own mark on the mural.
The final day of painting was a celebration, involving the entire school and many community leaders such as school board members and Durham Mayor Steve Schewel.
We hope you enjoy the time-lapse video capturing the process above, and we will add more photos as well.
